THE INCEPTION OF JJ THAI CUISINE

Back in the 1920s in Phon Thong, a Northern part of Roi Et Province, Barry Witcharut’s Great Grandparents would operate a provision shop with a mini takeaway restaurant from the second floor of their wooden house. 

Every time there is an order, his Great Grandparents would prepare the order and lowered it down on a basket attached to a rope that runs around the eye of a pulley that was hung on the external part of a window. The customer upon receiving his or her order would then put the money in the basket as a payment which will then be hoisted up.

The recipe was passed from generation to generation and went across shores hereafter into Singapore’s. 

The recipe took a standstill for 21 years until Barry Witcharut’s perseverance in encouraging and persuading his Mum paid off and eventually sparked the inception of JJ Thai Cuisine.

JJ Thai Cuisine was then Co-founded by Mr. Barry back in 2012 and with the unrelenting support of his family. 

It started out with humble beginnings in a hawker stall at Bukit Merah View. Overwhelming demand reaffirmed Barry's foresight to leverage on the good brand of JJ to introduce a well-known Thai comfort dish, Yen Ta Fo, locally known as (Yong Tau Foo). 

Expansion to 2 locations - Zion Riverside and Bukit Merah View Hawker in 2013 was swift due to good response and humbly, three stalls were soaring in recognition of its own, branded under the name of JJ Thai Cuisine and JJ Thai Yong Tau Foo. 

Barry later decided to embark on a concept which allows good conversations and connections to take place and a fast-casual restaurant concept was established at The Sembawang Food Haven – Jalan Legundi.

Naming conventions and our belief!

We believe in our JUG filled with true love and passion for what we do. 

The way we believe in delivering happiness through food is by making our food appetizing to the tongues, our environment appealing to the eyes, and our service comforting to the soul. 

With this conviction, we believe we empower great table-top conversations, good connections, and unforgettable memories. "
